Biophysical Society Bridging Funds Program

| Give if you can. Apply if you need to. We’re in this together. |
| At the Biophysical Society, we know how vital it is to stay connected to the community—especially during moments of financial uncertainty. The Bridging Funds Program, first introduced for the 2016 Annual Meeting, was created to help members navigate gaps in funding. With significant reductions in science funding, the need for this program has never been greater. To meet that need, BPS Council is expanding this program for the 2026 Annual Meeting. Through this expansion, at least 50 members will each receive $500 USD to support participation in the meeting, where they can share their work and stay engaged with peers—whether they’re between positions, managing reduced funding, or facing unexpected challenges. You can make an immediate impact. Every donation to the Bridging Funds Program between now and November 7 will be matched by BPS—up to $25,000. That means your support will go twice as far in keeping colleagues active in our field. |

| How to apply if you need help: If you’re facing a funding gap, you can apply for a $500 USD Bridging Fund to help cover costs to attend the BPS Annual Meeting—so you can continue sharing your science and stay connected to the community. Learn More and Apply Here Thank you for being part of BPS—and for helping build a community where every member belongs, especially in difficult times. With gratitude, Lynmarie K. The 21st IUPAB/62nd BSJ Congress took place at Kyoto ICC from June 24th 28th June 2024 – a handful of attendees also attended the 6th IUPAB congress in Kyoto in 1978. The event was organized by the Biophysical Society of Japan (BSJ) with the theme ‘Rocking Out Biophysics’, with the aim of “…..shaking up and creating new biophysics together.”
The congress was attended by just under 2000 delegates from 52 countries, with over 1045 poster presentations and 32 sessions. Among the highlights of the congress were the named IUPAB Plenary Lectures, IUPAB Awards, the IUPAB General Assembly, and the selection of the location of the 2030 triennial 23rd IUPAB congresses.
Manuel Prieto (IUPAB President, 2021-2024) and the Chairman of the Organizing Committee Hiroyuki Noji (Tokyo University, Japan) opened the congress (YouTube video here) during which one of the several “Rock sessions” took place. At the closing ceremony, chaired by Anthony Watts (IUPAB President, 2024-2027) and Noji-san, also had a “rock” theme and over 100 poster awards were made.
