Funding applications for 2016 Schools and Workshops

Applications for IUPAB funding for 2016 Schools will be accepted from June 1 – July 31, 2015.

All allocations will be in Euros, with the maximum 10,000 Euros.

We plan to advise applicants of the funding results by end November, 2015.

EBSA 2015

The 10th European Biophysics Congress will be held from July 18 – 22, 2015 in Dresden, Germany (“Florence on the Elbe River”)

Please note: Abstract submission deadline is March 15, 2015.
Accepted abstracts will be published as proceedings in the European Biophysical Journal. For each symposium, three abstracts will be selected for an oral presentation.

A sponsored student poster competition will be conducted, with twelve $500 awards to be presented.

9th Asian Biophysics Association Symposium

The Symposium (ABA-2015) will be held in the beautiful city of Hangzhou, China from May 9-12, 2015. ABA-2015 is sponsored by the Asian Biophysics Association and organized by The Biophysical Society of China (BSC) and The Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IBP, CAS).

The objective of ABA-2015 is to provide a platform for researchers and academicians, as well as industrial professionals, from the Asian Pacific to all over the world to present their research results and development activities in Biophysics and related fields. This conference provides opportunities for the delegates to exchange new ideas and application experiences face to face, to establish research relations and to find global partners for future collaboration.

Grants for 2015 Biophysics Schools

Applications closed at the end of September 2014 for assistance in funding biophysics , the IUPAB provided funding for six advanced schools in biophysics to be held during 2015:

Grenoble, France, February 2-5, 2015: Advanced isotopic labelling methods for integrated structural biology

Dresden Germany, July 15-17, 2015: Spectroscopies in biology – Recent advances

Singapore, July 11-15, 2015: Tropical school on advances in biophotonics for biomedicine

Poslatam, Uruguay, November 23-25, 2015: Membrane lipids, transporters, channels

Newry, Maine USA, May 30-31, 2015: Muscle excitation/contraction coupling – New frontiers in EC coupling

Each grant is awarded subject to the following conditions, which in brief require that the awardee a provide:

  • a signed Sponsorship Agreement
  • the Treasurer with an invoice for the amount of the grant
  • a detailed financial report, and receipts of specified expenses
  • receipts signed by the students who actually received the IUPAB funds.


Information for Young Scientist Travel Awards


Early Career Travel Grants are to assist young biophysicists, especially from developing countries, and applications are now open.

These IUPAB awards are intended to supplement, rather than to fully pay travel expenses.

Maximum award is US$1000 and minimum is US$250.00  The awards are not intended to cover the cost of registration to the Congress.

Application Form is available in pdf format on the IUPAB website  under “Forms” in “ABOUT US”.  This will give you all the information necessary to complete an application.

Closing date for applications is approximately three months before the Congress date.

 After that date, a lengthy evaluation process by the IUPAB Executive takes place,  and all applicants will then be advised of the outcome of their applications.

Applicants must present a poster or platform contribution to the Congress, and it is required  that  supervisors approve of their attendance.

The funds are paid in cash at the actual congress, and it is a condition that recipients attend the whole congress.  They must register on Day 1 ) and payments will be made on the final morning of the congress unless in exceptional circumstances.  

Passport or similar photoID must be provided, together with a photocopy to be left with us for attachment to an official receipt form which must be signed by each recipient.

This is a requirement of our Auditors, and payments cannot be made without compliance with this condition.     


International Semiconductor Science & Technology Conference in Turkey, May 2015

International Semiconductor Science and Technology Conference (ISSTC) 2015 will be held at Sea Light Resort Hotel in Kusadasi, TURKEY from May 11-13, 2015.

'Biomolecules and Nanostructures' 5th conference in Poland, May 13-17. 2015

This conference will be held at the Mlyn Jacka Hotel & Spa in Jaroszowice, near Krakow.  Key topics cover current subjects at the crossroads of molecular biology, physics and chemistry, including biomolecules, nanostructures, nanomachines and biosensors.

The speakers include many eminent scientists, and they are listed at  The book of abstracts will be issued within the Europhysics Conference Abstracts series, published by the European Physical Society.

Deadline for registration, abstract submission, and payment for accommodation and the conference fee is March 1, 2015.

ICTP-SAIFR Minischool on Biophysics of Protein Interactions, March 2015, São Paulo, Brazil

This school will be conducted from March 9 – March 13, 2015 at the IFT-UNESP in São Paulo, Brazil. Besides a poster session, attendants will also be invited to give short talks about their research activity in their home country in specific sessions that will be reserved in the working agenda for this purpose.  This school is aimed at graduate students and researchers in the fields of statistical mechanics, materials science, biophysics and nanobiotechnology.  There is no registration fee, and limited funds are available for travel and local expenses.
